Felix Dodier "Dody" Roach Jr. (born May 5, 1937 in Corpus Christi , Texas , † September 7, 2004 ibid) was a professional American poker player . He won two bracelets in the World Series of Poker .

Personal

Roach grew up in his hometown, Corpus Christi , and attended the Sam Houston Elementary and Wynn Seale Jr. High. He graduated from Ray High School in 1955. He then went to the military and was stationed in Korea for a time . Roach married on July 15, 1958 and had two sons with his wife. His military service ended in 1962, after which he worked for the Reynolds Metals Company in Gregory . On September 7, 2004, Roach, who suffered from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis , died at his Corpus Christi home at the age of 67.

Poker career

Career

Roach participated in prestigious live tournaments at least from 1981 to 2002.

In mid-May 1981 won Roach in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas , a tournament variant No Limit Hold'em and received in addition to the prize money of 81,000 US dollars a bracelet . At the 1982 WSOP , he made the final table at the main event , finishing sixth for more than $ 40,000 in prize money. In March 1988, won the Roach in Pot Limit Omaha being played Cajun Cup in Las Vegas Hilton with a prize money of 35,000 dollars. In the same variant, he won the Hall of Fame Poker Classic at the Bellagio Hotel in December 1995 , which earned him the grand prize of $ 116,400, the highest prize money of his career. At the 1996 WSOP , Roach won an event in Limit Omaha for a prize of more than $ 100,000 and his second bracelet . In 2002 he last made the money at the World Series of Poker .
