Dolmen du Colombier

The Dolmen du Colombier (also called Dolmen de Grosse Pierre) is located south of the main town of Bidon near Pierrelatte in the Ardèche department in France . It is one of the "Dolmens de l'Ardèche", which with 800 dolmens form the second largest megalithic area behind Brittany . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The dolmen should not be confused with the Allée couverte du Colombier in Switzerland , the dolmen du Colombier of Saint-Jean-d'Aubrigoux in the Haute-Loire department , that of Aubigné-Racan in the Sarthe department or the tumulus of Colombiers-sur- Seulles in the Calvados department .

The dolmen remnant, consisting of two limestone slabs , lies in the remnants of a cairn with a height of about 1.0 meters and essentially consists of the two long lateral bearing stones.

Nearby is the approximately 3.5 m high menhir de Grosse Pierre , one of only nine preserved menhirs in the department.
