Domenico Sigalini (born June 7, 1942 in Dello , Province of Brescia , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Palestrina .

Life

Domenico Sigalini received the sacrament of ordination on April 23, 1966 after his theological training at the seminary in Brescia . From 1966 to 1969 he was Vicar in Frontignano and Bargnano (Brescia) and also Vice-Rector of the Brescia Seminary. In 1971 he completed his mathematics studies at the University of Milan and taught mathematics at the seminary of Brescia from 1967 to 1991. Sigalini then became assistant to the then Archbishop Dionigi Tettamanzi , the general secretary of the Italian Bishops' Conference CEI. In 1993 he was entrusted with the organization of youth ministry for all of Italy. In 2001 he became Deputy Spiritual Assistant of the Italian Catholic Action. He was particularly involved in the preparation and celebrations of World Youth Day in Denver (1993), Manila (1995), Paris (1997), Toronto (2002) and above all Rome (2000).

On March 24, 2005, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Palestrina. The Cardinal Vicar of the Diocese of Rome , Camillo Ruini , donated him episcopal ordination on May 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Brescia , Giulio Sanguineti , and his predecessor as Bishop of Palestrina, Eduardo Davino . On November 3, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. the appointment as general chaplain of the Catholic Action of Italy (Azione Cattolica Italiana), an office which he filled until 2010. In 2010 he became President of the Episcopal Commission for the Laity.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on July 31, 2017.
