Dominator - The Hardcore Festival is an annual open-air festival for hardcore electronic music, which is jointly organized in the Netherlands by the Dutch event companies Art of Dance and Q-Dance . The Dominator, founded in 2005, is considered the largest outdoor hardcore techno festival in the world and competes with Defqon.1 (largest representative of the international hardstyle scene) and Tomorrowland (largest representative of the EDM scene).
history
The first edition, co-organized by ID&T , Masters of Hardcore and Q-Dance , took place on July 30, 2005 in Het Rutbeek near Enschede . In 2006 the Dominator did not take place. In 2007 Dominator returned, this time in the city park of Groningen . The third edition took place on July 26, 2008 in the Vlietlanden recreation area in South Holland . Since 2009 Dominator has been organized in Duynenwater in Eersel .
The first real Dominator Anthem appeared in the 2010 issue of Highway to Hell and has enjoyed growing popularity ever since.
Nirvana of Noise , Dominator 2011, reintroduces the concept of the anthem and shows an anthem that was written by several DJs especially for the Dominator edition in question. This anthem will remain famous on the scene thanks to the legendary scream of the festival name.
Cast of Catastrophe , Dominator 2012, is the festival's first real horror show and features a huge film studio that is haunted by zombies and other horror creatures. The DJs Angerfist and Outblast took over the management of the Anthems. It was a huge success, and Outblast will be releasing its third and final anthem for the festival here.
Carnival of Doom , Dominator 2013, is setting up a huge freak show-style carnival. The Anthem for this issue was produced by The Supreme Team. This edition is still the biggest media success of the festival to date, as the aftermovie recorded more than 10 million views on YouTube and has become a benchmark among festival visitors.
Metropolis of Massacre , Dominator 2014, shows a city infested by zombies and other horrific creatures. The Anthem has been published by Miss K8 & MC Nolz . This issue marks the first main stage appearance of the DJs Wasted Mind and Hellsystem as well as their productions focused on Millennium Hardcore.
Riders of Retaliation , Dominator 2015, depicts a camp of satanic motorcyclists on alert, largely inspired by other media (such as the Sons of Anarchy series ). This edition celebrates the 10th anniversary of the festival and for the first time introduces the concept of a stage dedicated to young talent. The anthem was written by Nosferatu and Tha Playah .
Methods of Mutilation , Dominator 2016, resembles a gigantic bloody spectacle of torture and horror and brings together various visual atrocities in its theme. The anthem comes from Furyan and MC ALee.
Maze of Martyr , Dominator 2017, features a terrifying maze ruled by zombies, killing and devouring anyone who dares to venture there. The Anthem is from Mad Dog & Dave Revan.
Wrath of Warlords , Dominator 2018, changes the setting to a post-apocalyptic world. It simulates a power struggle between eight bloodthirsty clans in a dry desert . Inspired by the movie Mad Max: Fury Road , the edition brings a breath of fresh air to the festival and was a commercial success. The anthem was created by Neophyte .
Rally of Retribution , Dominator 2019, builds on the previous year and hosts a huge rally between the same clans as last year. The event was also a success, but sales were more tentative. Some new curiosities popped up, replacing the traditional bungee jump with jumping in a car. The anthem comes from Angerfist & MC Nolz .
Due to the international health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic , the Dominator 2020 was canceled by a decree of the Dutch government .
concept
The name of the festival goes back to the song title Dominator , one of the founding works of gabber music, which was published in 1991 by the group Human Resource . The festival is mostly based on a creepy theme (although the theme has been post-apocalyptic since 2018 , with great visual and biblical similarities to the Mad Max film series). Each theme of the next festival will be announced at a similar event, the Masters of Hardcore , which takes place earlier in the year.
