Dominik Mosler

Dominik Mosler , also Domenicus Mosler or Dominikus Mosler (born November 19, 1822 in Düsseldorf , † November 13, 1880 in Münster , Westphalia province ), was a German history and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Mosler, eldest son of the painter and art historian Karl Josef Ignatz Mosler and older brother of the history painter Heinrich Mosler , grew up in Düsseldorf and studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1838 to 1843 , where his father taught art history. There were Rudolf Wiegmann , Karl Ferdinand Sohn and Wilhelm Schadow his teachers. In 1844 he became a student of Jakob Becker and later of Edward von Steinle at the Städelsche Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt am Main . Study trips took him to Munich and Paris . He then moved back to Düsseldorf, but then settled in Münster. Mosler specialized in the field of religious history painting. From 1858 to 1860 he worked for Steinle in his painting of the Münster Aegidi Church .
