Heinrich Mosler (painter)

Heinrich Otto Mosler (* 1836 in Düsseldorf ; † November 27, 1892 ibid) was a German history and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School , art writer and teacher at the Leipzig Art Academy .

Life

Mosler was the son of the painter and art historian Karl Josef Ignatz Mosler and the younger brother of the painter Dominik Mosler . He grew up in Düsseldorf and, after high school, attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1850 to 1857 . In addition to his father, who taught art history, his teachers were Karl Ferdinand Sohn , Josef Wintergerst , Rudolf Wiegmann , Karl and Andreas Müller , Heinrich Mücke and Wilhelm von Schadow . He lived in Düsseldorf until 1880, most recently with an apartment at Schwanenmarkt 12 and a studio at Inselstraße 12. In 1881, he succeeded Georg Schildknecht as a middle-class teacher in the Antikensaal of the Leipzig Art Academy . However, he soon resigned his teaching post and returned to Düsseldorf. In the last years of his life he mainly painted portraits.
