Monastery church

The Dominikuskloster is located behind the Lüdeckes' Schulzenhof, built in 1776, in Alt-Lankwitz 37 & 39 in Berlin-Lankwitz . Since 1927 it has been the motherhouse of the religious institute of the Sisters of Christ, who first dedicated themselves to the care of babies. A sanatorium for Kneipp medicine was built there in 1935 . It was later converted into a hospital and later a nursing home. In summer 2003 it was closed for financial reasons. The building complex is part of the listed ensemble of the Angerdorf Alt-Lankwitz.

history

In 1926 the Christ the King sisters acquired the former Lehnschulzengut in Alt-Lankwitz. They renovated the manor house and expanded it to become the mother house called Dominikushaus. On June 15, 1929, the Congregation of the Sisters of Christ the King was canonically established by Adolf Cardinal Bertram , Prince-Bishop of Breslau. In order to run an infant and children's home with a day nursery , a guest house , the chapel of grace and a student dormitory in Alt-Lankwitz, the nuns founded the Dominikushaus GmbH. In 1935 the Kneipp sanatorium was added. The buildings were destroyed in a bombing raid on August 23, 1943. Reconstruction began in 1946. In 1954 it was opened as a hospital after appropriate expansion . After it was increased and modernized in 1961, the facility was named Theodosius Hospital. In 1967/68 the side wing was modernized. As part of hospital planning , it was converted into a nursing home in 1977 . In December 2002 the home had to close and its 70 employees had to be dismissed after the sisters had been cheated of all their assets by the two managing directors of their Dominikushaus GmbH. In February 2003, the sisters filed for bankruptcy . The property had to be sold. The Theodosius hospital was demolished and residential buildings with around 150 apartments were built in the monastery garden . The Catholic community Chemin Neuf has lived in the monastery since 2006 . The service will continue in the Chapel of Mercy.
