Donald Dell (born June 17, 1938 in Bethesda , Maryland ) is a retired American tennis player , Davis Cup captain and players agent .

Life

Dell made its first final in 1960 in Yale , ended 1964 at the University of Virginia with a degree in law and worked in the years 1967 and 1968 at the law firm Hogan & Hartson. He is the Vice President of the International Tennis Hall of Fame , which he was inducted into in 2009. Dell was also one of the three founding members of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

Tennis career

Donald Dell began his active tennis career at Yale University. In 1961 and 1963 he played for the American Davis Cup team and was captain of the winning team in 1968 and 1969. In 1961 he reached the quarter-finals of the US tennis championships (now US Open ). His only final participation in a major tournament, he was able to book the 1959 Cincinnati Masters .

Company formation

Dell was one of the earliest professional sports agents . He represented tennis players such as Arthur Ashe , Stan Smith , Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl from 1975 to 1985. In 1970, he and Frank Craighill founded ProServ, the first sports management company in Washington, DC . His clients dominated the ATP tour for many years. ProServ and the then young agent David Falk also represented basketball players such as Michael Jordan , Patrick Ewing and John Lucas . Donald Dell's company was taken over by the SFX Sports Group in 1999 after leaving as Chairman in 1997.
