The Danube flood of 1862 of February 1862 was an extraordinarily strong flood of the Danube . It caused particularly great damage in Vienna and Passau .

The flood, which was due to the persistent thaw, flooded the areas on both sides of the Danube in Vienna at the beginning of February, especially Leopoldstadt , Brigittenau , Zwischenbrücken , Rossau , Floridsdorf , Mühlschüttel, Stadlau , the area around the Great Danube Bridge and Langenzersdorf . In Passau the flood reached its peak on February 2nd with a level of 11.6 m.

consequences

This and the previous great Danube flood in 1830 ultimately gave Vienna the impetus for Vienna's Danube regulation .
