The Dost or Doost is a nature reserve and geotope in the municipality of Floß (district Diepoldsreuth) in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the northern Upper Palatinate . The Dost consists of round granite blocks with a diameter of 50 centimeters up to 5 meters that have collected in the course of the Girnitz stream .

The rock formations were created by weathering and ice age processes.

There are numerous stories and legends about the Dost.

The Dost was declared a nature reserve as early as 1937 . The approximately 10 hectare area offers numerous animal and plant species an unspoiled habitat.

The Dost is a very popular hiking destination among the local population, to which several hiking trails are signposted.

Geotope

The Girnitz creek has been designated as a valuable geotope by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (geotope number: 374R005).
