The peat flea and Pfrentschwiese is a nature reserve , fauna-flora-habitat and EU bird sanctuary in Eslarn in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria .

The nature reserve is located about 4.2 kilometers northeast of Eslarn on the Czech border. It is part of the Northern Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park , the LSG landscape protection area within the Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park (formerly a protection zone) and the congruent FFH / EU bird protection areas peat fleas .

The approximately 172 hectare area was created by damming the Katherinenbach , a source brook of the Pfreimd in the 14th century. Originally it was a 450-hectare pond, after its abandonment in the 19th century, drainage measures created the conditions for agricultural and forestry use. In the area of ​​the nature reserve, habitat improvement measures such.
