Life

After studying design at the Krefeld University of Applied Sciences and studying painting in Perugia and Hamburg, she worked as an actress in films by Werner Nekes , whom she married in 1967. In 1968 she became - together with Helmut Herbst , Hellmuth Costard , Thomas Struck and others, including her husband Werner Nekes - co-founder of the "Hamburger Filmmacher Cooperative". Also from this year onwards she produced her own films, books, pictures and photos. The interdisciplinary art representation Dore Os combines landscapes, architecture and people into multi-dimensional and often experimental image networks. She lives and works in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

Appreciation

The titles of the films, which do not allow direct communication, contrast extremely with the commercial film. They appeal to the viewer's power of association, where the commercial film titles are solely concerned with arousing voyeuristic and sadistic desires, which the content is then unable to satisfy. From the start, Dore O.'s work denied its commodity character, which would consist in being made “appealing”.

Dore O. participated in Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 and was also represented as an artist at Documenta 6 in 1977.
