The village church in Altenklitsche is the evangelical church in Altenklitsche (Saxony-Anhalt).

history

The village church of Altenklitsche was built between 1712 and 1715 by the Magdeburg master builder Christoph Behse on behalf of the then District Administrator Baltzer Friedrich von Katte . It replaced the previous building, a simple wooden church, and was built in baroque form with splendid furnishings .

In 1973 the church tower burned down after a lightning strike and was slightly changed in its view when the church building authority renewed it.

The listed church is a plastered brick hall building with a rectangular nave and three-sided east end. The west tower was designed on a square floor plan with a slate-covered tail roof and an open, slightly squat lantern .

The nave, spanned by a four-bay cross- rib vaulted vault , is characterized by the high lead-glazed arched windows in metal frames and pilaster-lined niches. Above the south portal there is a donor inscription carved in sandstone with the alliance coat of arms of the von Katte and von Hüniken families , which also gives a reference to the master builder Christoph Behse.

The brightly whitewashed interior has a uniform, richly ornamented baroque wooden interior, all in white and gold. In the western part of the interior, narrow columns support the horseshoe gallery . Its side parapets are decorated with putti holding cartouches framed by garlands with sayings from the Bible. Angels playing music can be found in the organ gallery.

The choir is dominated by a large pulpit altar . In the center of the altar wall is the five-sided pulpit with Christian symbols in glorioles . Above the pulpit in the blown gable stands the Christ with the guardians of the grave. The altar painting depicts Holy Communion . Statues of the apostles Peter and Paul stand over the side passages . Behind the altar is a large painting with Ecce Homo based on the Italian model, as well as the donor's inscription from the previous building from 1589, embedded in the east wall.

In front of the north side of the altar wall stands the patronage stalls with genii and alliance coat of arms in the crowning segment gable, opposite the parish stalls with Fides (faith), Caritas (love) and Spes (hope) .

The figure grave of Claus von Lossow, who died on June 19, 1585, is worth mentioning . The plate originally attached to the south side of the building is covered with rough, irregular longitudinal grooves (whet marks) and round marks, which apparently stem from shooting attempts - perhaps from the time of the Thirty Years War .

In front of the altar, Katte had the sandstone painting of his ancestor Peter von Lossow, from whom the old wooden church came, placed. The small assembly of angels in the chancel - dated to the year 1718 - was given the facial features of the five sons of Baltzer Friedrich von Katte. They stand in pairs, serving as lecterns, while the smallest of them holds the baptismal shell on his head.

The organ of Gottlieb Scholze with simple brochure was built 1780th In the vault on the tower side there are two richly furnished, silver-clad coffins. Of the original three bells , only one still hangs in the bell cage , the others were lost during the Second World War .

The first refurbishment steps were in 2003 static safety measures on the foundation and the vaults before the facade, roof and windows could be extensively restored in 2005. In the meantime, the exterior of the church corresponds again to its rich baroque interior. The group of angels in the choir was restored on the occasion of the 2006 baptism exhibition in Magdeburg Cathedral and exhibited there. In 2010 the interior (walls and ceilings) was revised and the organ with the organ brochure restored. In 2015, the altar, including the curtain painting, was restored.
