Altenklitsche is a district of the unified municipality of Jerichow in the Jerichower Land district in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The village with about 140 inhabitants is characterized by agriculture and is located in the middle of fields, meadows and forests between Genthin and Rathenow .
history
The earliest settlement can be traced back to the Bronze Age . The period for the settlement was the advance of the Wends , a Slavic tribe that settled in the Elbe-Havel-Winkel around the time from 500–1100 BC. During this time, numerous local foundations followed. Altenklitsche and Neuenklitsche are to be seen as Wendish lane villages with one exit. They later developed into street settlements.
The name Klitsche is derived from the Slavic Klita , which means bad house , hut or mud hut . In 1268 a place was first mentioned as Clitzke .
So far, eight archaeological sites are known in the local area, which are protected in accordance with the Monument Protection Act of Saxony-Anhalt.
The old Germanic dwelling in the forest between Altenklitsche and Wulkow (archaeological sites with over 100 burial mounds) can be dated to around 1500 BC.
On September 30, 1928 the manor district Altenklitsche (with Altbellin) was merged with the rural community Altenklitsche.
Until the new formation of the municipality of Klitsche , which took effect on July 1, 1950, Altenklitsche was independent. After the dissolution of the community Klitsche on January 1, 2010 Altenklitsche became a district of Jerichow.
