history

Evangelical Church of Klietznick

Klietznick is a place of Slavic origin, the 9/10. Century in the Wendish Untergau Semcici (Semzizi), an area that stretched to the south of Parey . The original place name Klesnic (place on the river hook) is a reference to the location of the place on the so-called Elbhaken, a former Elbarm. The residents had already protected themselves from the floods of the Elbe in the 12th century by a dike. Called the winter dike, it is now 3440 meters long and lies directly on the banks of the Elbe. The Klietznicker Church was built around 1200. It was first mentioned as a German settlement in 1365. In an archbishop's feudal register from 1370 to 1400, the place is recorded under the name Klyzenick. In 1376 Henning von Barby is named as the owner of the place. In 1467 Klietznick was sold to the von Redekin family. After they died out in 1634, the property passed to the valet Moritz Hahn, and later to the von Katte family, who lived in the area . The manor , which had existed for centuries , later became a Vorwerk of the Jerichow domain .

In 1791 the few residents of Klietznick received an addition of eleven families who moved from the neighboring town of Heydebleck, which was constantly at risk of flooding. The local chronicle reports on a major accident on May 9, 1807, in which seven women and girls capsized and drowned on the way to their milking station while crossing a lake by boat.

In 1815 Prussia , in whose domain Klietznick was located, carried out a reform of the territorial administration, with which the place was incorporated into the district of Jerichow II with the district town of Genthin . To protect against the Elbe floods, the so-called summer dike was built in 1840, which measured 3360 meters after its completion. In 1842 Klietznick had 156 residents and its own school. In the years 1866 and 1872 several buildings, including the church tower, fell victim to conflagrations. With the construction of the new Hohenseeden-Jerichow road in 1884 and the opening of the Güsen-Jerichow railway line in 1924, Klietznick was connected to the modern transport network. Nevertheless, the number of inhabitants fell at the beginning of the 20th century from 192 in 1910 to 174 in 1939.

During the Second World War , the place had to park 15 horses and five farm wagons for the German armed forces . Of the 44 men drafted into the military, 16 died.

During the GDR era, Klietznick was administered by the Genthin district. On July 1, 1950, the place lost its communal independence when it was incorporated into Jerichow. On February 10, 1953, an " agricultural production cooperative" (LPG) was founded, with which most of the farmers lost their independence. While they were still able to keep their cattle privately until 1960, the conversion of LPG to Type III resulted in full collectivization of Klietznick agriculture.

When the road to Ferchland was converted into a concrete road in 1965, all trees on the road, including an avenue of fruit trees, fell victim to this measure. After the end of the GDR, the residents of Klietznick began to renovate the infrastructure of their place that had been neglected for decades. For this purpose the Village Beautification Association was founded on May 17, 1991.
