history

Neuenklitsche is a street village of Wendish origin, the core of which is in the eastern part of today's village. The settlement can be traced back to the Bronze Age.

In the Neuenklitsche district, eight archaeological sites are known to date that are protected in accordance with the Saxony-Anhalt Monument Protection Act.

About 1.6 km north-east of Neuenklitsche there is a Slavic castle wall ( Burgstall ) in a strembe arch . It is a typical Niederungsburg (defense system) from the 9th / 10th. Century.

The village church and cemetery were built on the open village green in the 12th century.

In the 16th century, the von Katte family received Neuenklitsche awards. Until the 19th century, the seat of the landlords was at the end of the village. After a fire in the middle of the 19th century that destroyed half the village, the family moved to Gut Wilhelmsthal, which was founded in 1784 as a Vorwerk by Neuenklitsche, about 3 km from the village.

A well-known landlord of Neuenklitsche was the Prussian officer and freedom fighter Friedrich von Katte , who occupied the town of Stendal with a small corps of volunteers in April 1809 , but then had to flee to Bohemia because of the hopelessness of inciting an uprising against Napoleon .

The most well-known ancestor of the former landlords was Hans Hermann von Katte , childhood friend of Friedrich II (Prussia) . Knowing about the prince's escape plans, he was brought to court martial and executed in 1730.

On September 30, 1928, the Neuenklitsche manor district was united with the rural community of Neuenklitsche.

Until the new formation of the municipality of Klitsche , which came into effect on July 1, 1950, Neuenklitsche was independent. After the dissolution of the municipality of Klitsche on January 1, 2010, Neuenklitsche became a district of Jerichow .

During the GDR era, the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg established and maintained the company holiday camp " Philipp Müller " for the children of the university members in the former Wilhelmstal manor .
