Demsin is a village in the unified municipality of Jerichow in the district of Jerichower Land in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The village of Demsin consists of the districts Großdemsin, Kleindemsin and Kleinwusterwitz , as well as the residential areas Binnenheide, Dreihäuser and Werdershof.

history

On January 1, 1911, the manor districts Großdemsin I and II in the district of Jerichow II were merged to form the manor district Großdemsin. A few years later, on September 30, 1928, this manor district of Großdemsin was merged with the manor district of Werdershof and parts of the manor districts of Kleindemsin (without exclave) and Rosenthal (only Rosenthaler Forst) to form a rural community of Großdemsin. The exclave of the manor district of Kleindemsin in the Genthin district was merged with the city of Genthin.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Großdemsin, Kleinwusterwitz and Zabakuck were merged to form Demsin, but on January 1, 1957, Zabakuck became a separate community again.

On May 28, 2009, the Demsin municipal council decided to dissolve through a change of territory agreement and to unite with 11 other municipalities to form a new unified municipality called the City of Jerichow . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

At the same time, the Elbe-Stremme-Fiener administrative community ceased to exist, as all former member communities merged to form the new unified community “City of Jerichow” .

politics

The last mayor of Demsin was Jürgen Staschull.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved by the district on January 19, 2009.

Blazon : "In gold between green flanks three soaring black swallows."

In 2008, the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch designed a coat of arms on behalf of the municipal council, which is intended to symbolically represent the places even after the incorporation. It was taken into account that Demsin consisted of the districts Großdemsin, Kleindemsin and Kleinwusterwitz as well as the residential areas Binnenheide, Dreihäuser and Werdershof. The symbolism of the coat of arms therefore shows three swallows flying in the same direction, representing the three districts from which the community emerged. This symbol can be transferred to the common path that the districts walk together.

Historical coat of arms

The former communities Großdemsin and Kleinwusterwitz already had a coat of arms-like seal image in their community seals. These were used in the period after the Second World War until the introduction of the districts and counties in the GDR (1945–1952). Another source is the County Home Museum in Genthin.

Buildings

The Protestant parish church in Kleinwusterwitz was built in 1838 , the altar wall of which has parts of a Gothic winged altar from the first half of the 16th century.
