history

View from the north

The old village church of Banzkow was demolished around 1870. In its place, the current church building was erected from 1872 according to plans by the architect Theodor Krüger and consecrated in 1875. It is an aisle church with a four-bay nave and a polygonal apse . The east gable shows panel structure. The upper part of the three-storey west tower has an octagonal attachment with a pointed helmet.

Furnishing

An altarpiece by Clara Müller shows Christ in Gethsemane. It came from Rostock to the Banzkower Church in 1902 and is a copy of a picture by Karl Gottfried Pfannschmidt in the Serrahn Church .

The organ was built in 1884 by the Schwerin organ builder Friedrich Friese III in a neo-Gothic case . The slider drawer instrument has 6 stops on a manual (C – c 3 : Principal 8 ′, Gedact 8 ′, Flute 8 ′, Octave 4 ′, Reed Flute 4 ′, Octave 2 ′). The pedal is attached.

From the furnishings of the Banzkower church, which was demolished in 1870, a Vesper picture from a Mecklenburg workshop from the end of the 15th century was initially transferred to the grand ducal collection in Schwerin and was sold to the art historian Adolf Gottschewski in Hamburg in 1916 . It was acquired by the St. Annen Museum in Lübeck in 1918 and is now part of the museum's collection of sacred art from the Middle Ages.
