Buchholz village church

The village church is a listed church building in Buchholz , a municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It belongs to the Neustrelitz Propstei of the Mecklenburg Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ).

History and architecture

The flat-roofed hall church was built in brick on a granite base in the first half of the 14th century . The east facing gables are above a row with sculptural heads. The walls are structured by pointed arched windows and three pointed arched portals with profiled walls . During repairs from 1934 to 1935, the windows were standardized. The shield arches in the interior were originally intended for vaults , they were changed and plastered. The wall paintings were made around 1930 by the Berlin artist Cohnert.

tower

The west tower is open on three sides to form an arbor, it was added later. The top with a hood was probably boarded up around 1700.

Furnishing

  • The mural of Christ's Sea Sermon is a work by H. Kohnert.
  • The carved altar was made at the end of the 16th century. The top with a crucifixion group is triumphal arch-shaped , in the side niches there are figures of the evangelists.
  • The baptism with a lid dates from the second half of the 18th century.
  • The carved pulpit was made in the 18th century.
