history

Carl von Karstedt

From 1835 to 1840, Stüler had rebuilt Carl von Karstedt's manor house in Fretzdorf , after he had taken over the management of his parents' property in 1835. Von Karstedt was not only a large landowner, but also held the church patronage over Christdorf. The church district Wittstock-Ruppin therefore suspects that von Karstedt approached Stüler and asked him for a sacred building . Between 1835 and 1837, craftsmen erected a building that is considered the “rural sister” of St. Peter and Paul in Berlin-Wannsee . It is one of the first structures that Stüler had built. He was supported by his older brother Carl Ascan , government building inspector in Pritzwalk . From 2009 to 2014, was parish for around 127,000 euros, the building envelope renovate, inter alia, by a dry rot infested. A renovation of the interior and the Lütkemüller - Organ is planned. Furthermore, the windows in the apse are to be renewed, the apse repainted and the color of the flat beamed ceiling adjusted. The costs are estimated at 50,000 to 60,000 euros.

Building description

View from the southwest

The entire structure was built from reddish brick and strictly architecturally structured. The most conspicuous elements are continuous cornices that run across the entire structure in several horizontal lines. So also at the apse. It is semicircular and indented. A first cornice is at the level of the window sills on the nave , another at the level of the battlements . Above it are five small circular windows with yellow and purple glass. The eaves are decorated with a frieze , over which follows a semicircular conical roof at the apse . The north and south walls of the nave are also divided into two planes by the cornices mentioned. In the middle are three large, segment-arched windows. The corners of the building are accentuated by pilaster strips that merge into branch towers in the roof and thus also optically lengthen the building vertically. The east wall of the nave also has a small, circular window at the height of the apse window on each side. The gable is decorated and carries a cross at the height of the roof ridge . To the west is a massive, four-story church tower that takes up the width of the nave. Access is via a large, arched portal with a small gable above. At the height of the eaves of the nave is a large rose window in the middle , next to each a small, segment-arched window. The central upper floor of the tower adjoins it; on each side there are two brick walls with crosses. This is followed by a floor with windows, another with a tower clock on the west and east sides and a floor with two sound arcades on each side. The pyramid roof also ends with a cross.

Furnishing

The furnishings come from the time the church was built and have been completely preserved. The walls are plastered in light gray and decorated with a joint cut . In the apse, craftsmen put on a light stucco , which was decorated with a yellow frieze at the level of the eaves . The horseshoe gallery, designed with painted vine tendrils, rests on wooden supports that are painted with symmetrical ornaments.

In front of the south wall of the nave, a memorial commemorates those who fell in the war.

A detailed replica of the building is in the Berlin-Brandenburg model park in Berlin .
