The village church in Dorndorf , a district of Laucha an der Unstrut in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt , is essentially a medieval choir tower church from the 12th / 13th centuries. Century. The nave was rebuilt in the 17th century . In the first half of the 18th century, the double horseshoe gallery and the wooden hollow ceiling, the baroque painting of which has been preserved. The tower with its baroque dome and lantern attachment also dates from the 18th century.

Gallery

The paintings on the parapet of the wooden horseshoe gallery depict biblical scenes. The captions refer to the biblical passages, the texts below the images explain the content.

The upper left depicts the discovery of Moses , who was abandoned in a wicker basket in the Nile after his birth and taken in by the Pharaoh 's daughter . The upper right depicts Abraham who is ready to sacrifice his son Isaac to God . The lower scenes depict the stoning of Stephen , the raising of Lazarus and the transfiguration of Jesus .

The two pictures on the west side of the gallery refer to the Secret Revelation of John and depict the Lamb of God on Mount Zion and the heavenly Jerusalem .

The flood and Jacob's dream of the ladder to heaven are depicted on the parapet of the southern gallery . The lower scenes show the baptism of Jesus , the expulsion of the merchants from the temple and the conversion of the apostle Paul .

Painted wooden ceiling

The wooden ceiling is decorated with ornamental and emblematic representations. The emblems are provided with Latin captions, a German explanatory text is attached in verse under the scenes. One representation bears the title “OMNIBUS PATEO” and the caption “If you are thirsty, find yourself. Here there will be refreshment before him ”. In the center of the ceiling is the representation of the resurrection of Christ .

Furnishing

  • The pulpit altar dates from the 18th century. In the predella , the Last Supper is framed by a stucco cartouche .
  • The late Gothic altar shrine is the middle part of a winged altar that is no longer preserved and is dated around 1500. In the middle is a Madonna and Child in a halo, on the left is St. Valentin of Raetia , on the right St. Sebastian .
  • The church has a baptismal angel from the late 17th century, which was restored in 2005.
  • The baroque organ is in need of extensive overhaul, the builder and year are unknown.
