The Protestant village church of Hetzdorf is an early Gothic stone church in the Hetzdorf district of the Uckerland community in the Uckermark district in Brandenburg . It belongs to the parish of Hetzdorf in the Pasewalk provost in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Northern Church) .

History and architecture

The village church in Hetzdorf is a carefully executed field stone building from the second half of the 13th century, which is arched , but is now closed with beamed ceilings in the choir and nave. It consists of a retracted rectangular choir, the nave and a high transverse rectangular west tower, which was closed in 1779 by a square half-timbered tower with a tent roof. In the years 1989-1992 a restoration was carried out.

Coupled lancet windows with brick walls are arranged in groups of three in the choir ; in the east there is a pointed arch made of brick with three staggered lancets similar to the village church of Falkenhagen (Mark) . The ship windows with field stone reveals , arranged in pairs, were later provided with arches . In the south of the choir there is a two-tier brick portal with inlaid round bars. In the north and south walls there are ogival portals made of field stone, another portal in the west shows a double-stepped reveal . On the side wall remains of later attached buttresses are preserved.

Inside, the arching that once existed can be seen on the shield arches of the ship's walls, the paired arrangement of the ship's windows and the central support that was proven by excavations. The originally barrel-vaulted tower was once opened to the nave with three staggered pointed arches, which were later walled up except for the southern one. A similar arrangement can be found in the churches of Göritz , Lindenhagen, Schmölln and Schönfeld .

The parish , which had long belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Mark Brandenburg (parish of Strasburg), was only handed over to the Pomeranian Evangelical Church in 1974 by the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg .

Furnishing

The main part of the furnishings is an artistically valuable altarpiece from 1620 with rich fittings . It consists of a high three-storey structure, which is divided on the main floor by Corinthian columns with openwork fittings. In the main axis, the Last Supper, Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension are depicted in scenic reliefs, some with sculptural groups of figures. In the side, shell-shaped niches, there are reliefs of the blessing and distribution of the Lord's Supper as well as sculptures of allegories , the evangelists and angels.

At about the same time, the wooden pulpit with column structure and reliefs of the evangelists was built. A late Gothic Madonna sculpture from the end of the 15th century was reused at the base of the pulpit. The wrought iron chandelier was created in the 18th century. A neo-Gothic cast iron christening dates from the 19th century. Two brass chandeliers were created around 1900 and 1910.

The organ by August Ferdinand Dinse from 1869 stands on a western gallery from the 18th century, comes from the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche in Berlin and was installed in the Hetzdorf church in 1889. The neo-Gothic organ prospect is from 1898. After a restoration by Rainer Wolter in 1994, the organ today has eleven stops on two manuals and a pedal . A bell was cast in 1847 by Carl Friedrich Voss from Stettin.
