history
In 1675 the village church was built, consecrated and handed over to the parish within a few months. With the church, Duke Bernhard von Sachsen-Jena, on the occasion of the birth of his successor Johann Wilhelm, redeemed his vow to found a church if a male heir was born to him. According to another tradition, the consistory, a body for the administration of the churches, is said to have imposed the church foundation on him as a punishment for his polygamy. It is the only new church to be built during the short period of the Duchy of Saxony-Jena between 1672 and 1690. Demolition stones from buildings of the Thalbürgel Abbey were used as building material .
The historian and local researcher Ottogerd Mühlmann writes about the church in Kleinlöbichau:
“The history of its origins has made the church considerably more important. It was built in a short time in 1675 from the stones of the neighboring, decaying Thalbürgel Abbey, donated by Bernhard, the only Duke of the Saxony-Jena line, in whose presence it was inaugurated. The village received its little church as a gift from a duke, who, however, only had to fulfill a vow with his deed, which he had probably made in connection with an admonition issued by the consistory, because of family events, "the one that went on up to now, cordially to repent, to do true repentance and to seek God out "."
Supported by the Friends of the Church in Kleinlöbichau , founded in 2009 , the village church was renovated between 2012 and 2015.
