Building description and history

East view with sacristy

The core of the village church, built in 1655 in the Prösener village, is a plastered hall with a gable roof . It has a three-sided east end and in the west a square church tower with an eight-sided top, tail hood and lantern . A sacristy can be found in the east.

It is unclear since when there was a church in Prösen. Presumably a church or chapel was built as early as the 14th century . In 1655, a new structure in the style of the mother church in Stolzenhain was erected on the site of a previously demolished church . In the years 1793/94, the church underwent extensive renovations, as it was in a dilapidated condition at that time. The inside also experienced the same, which was partly redesigned.

The church suffered severe fire damage in 1835, which particularly affected the tower. In the following period it was rebuilt. Another repair of the building took place in 1911. In 1912 the interior was renovated and the church got electric light. Further renovations followed in 1936 and 1949.

In 1953 it received new stalls and in 1958 the altar windows were fitted with stained glass . After the church was placed under monument protection in 1980, the church tower roof, including the cross and the tower ball, was renewed in 1985.

Equipment (selection)

The interior of the church is covered by a stucco ceiling. A three-sided gallery from the 18th century and a simple wooden baroque pulpit altar from the 18th century characterize the room.

The cup-shaped baptismal font from the late 15th century with a hexagonal cup and the coat of arms of the von Pflugk family was probably already in the previous buildings of today's church, but was replaced by a baptismal angel in the 16th century , which was used again during the renovation and renovation work in 1793 was removed. Instead, the font again took its place. The baptismal angel is said to have been in the attic of the church around 1910, but could no longer be found in 1935. A large old altar Bible that originally existed was stolen during a break-in in the summer of 1998.

An organ is said to have been located in the Prösener church as early as the 18th century. Today's organ , a 1857 from Merseburger Johann Friederich Gerhardt uncreated First settling in the teacher training college of Elsterwerda and went over 1890 by purchasing the property of the church. It has a mechanical cone drawer , a manual and six stops .

Bells

Steeple

The church has three bells. The oldest and largest bell dates from 1320 and is cast from bronze. It has a diameter of 96 centimeters and bears the inscription on the neck: Benedictvs-Maria-Osanna in exelsis .

The other two bells were cast from hard cast iron in 1958 in the bell foundry Schilling and Lattermann in Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz . The larger bell has a weight of 245 kilograms and a diameter of 82 centimeters. On the neck it bears the inscription: O land - land hear the word of the Lord . The smaller of these bells has a diameter of 68 centimeters and weighs 145 kilograms. On her neck she bears the inscription: Pray and work .

An originally existing second bronze bell from 1836 was melted down in 1942 .

Parish of Prösen

At the end of the 19th century, the population in Prösen had risen to 800. Therefore, according to Prösen, thoughts were outsourced from the Stolzenhain-Saathain parish.

From 1903 on, Prösen finally formed a parish with the neighboring community of Wainsdorf and had its own pastoral office, for which a parsonage was built from 1902 to 1903.

At the end of the 1990s, the Prösen parish was merged with Würdenhain .
