Friedrich Gerhardt (organ builder)

Johann Friedrich Gerhardt (born November 1, 1826 in Kölleda , † April 25, 1922 in Merseburg ) was a German organ builder . From 1853 to 1863 he ran his workshop in Kölleda. Then he moved her to Merseburg, where he worked until 1894.

Life

Friedrich Gerhardt was born the son of a farmer and magistrate assistant in Kölleda and was baptized there on November 9, 1826. His second godfather was the local organ builder Johann Christoph Damm, with whom he probably completed an apprenticeship from 1840. This was followed by journeyman years with Johann Michael Hesse in Dachwig , Urban Creutzbach in Borna , Carl August Buchholz in Berlin , Franz Wilhelm Sonreck , Cologne , Wilhelm Korfmacher , Aachen , and Johann Claussen Schmid , Oldenburg . His years of traveling also took him to organ builders in Belgium , France and Northern Italy before opening his own workshop in his hometown in 1853.
