The village church in Schlagenthin is the Evangelical church in Schlagenthin in Saxony-Anhalt .
The two - part half - timbered church with an older massive choir and a separately built bell shower is set back in the second row in the center of the village on the village green and cannot be seen at first glance from the street - due to the lack of a tower.

history

The outside simple church looks back on an eventful history and has its roots in the 13th century. From the originally Romanesque church only the choir made of plastered brickwork with the priest's gate and the triumphal arch has survived. The rest of the church was destroyed during the Thirty Years War .

In the second half of the 17th century the church received a nave of half-timbered , however, without a tower. Due to the lower costs, the bell tower was built separately next to the church, as a half-timbered building with masonry frames.

Description and equipment

The simple exterior design does not suggest that the splendid interior is still in good condition. This dates from the 17th century and is largely attributable to the baroque . The painted coffered ceiling from around 1670 shows angels with banners and instruments of torture in the choir, and angels and musical instruments singing in the nave.

The gallery on the south wall of the choir has a double-row arcade structure with columns and arches. The organ front is decorated with painted rococo carvings. The organ behind it is currently not playable and has been partially dismantled. The two-part altarpiece is made of wood with flanking columns, a crowning blown gable and a painting of the Last Supper . The wooden pulpit with a sound cover is from the late Renaissance . On the polygonal pulpit, which is decorated with diamond fittings and other ornaments such as fretwork and scales, the four evangelists are shown in arcade frames . Biblical sayings can be found in square fields below. The pulpit also bears an inscription by the founder Margareta von der Schulenburg .

The sandstone figure tombstones in front of the altar, a wood-carved, painted trophy commemorative plaque on the north side between the windows and several grave slabs in the cemetery are reminiscent of the patron saints of Treskow , who were lords of the manor and church patrons in the period from the 15th to the 18th centuries Schlagenthin were.

For the bells, a separate half-timbered bell tower was built next to the church with the half-timbered extension. The two bells were cast by Heinrich Borstelmann in Magdeburg around 1620 . The larger bell has a diameter of 112 cm. The smaller bell with a diameter of 98 cm bears decorations with the Treskow coat of arms and the coat of arms of Margareta von Schulenburg, which once again refer to the patron saint and donor and the following inscription:

"Heinrich von Borstelmann zu Magdeburg poured me, to the gathering of Christians I call
that they are with heart and mouth, praise God and praise God at all times,
and so often they hear people be reminded of the resurrection."

In 2001/2002 the first renovation steps were carried out on the severely damaged framework of the church.
In 2006, the Glockenschauer received a new roof covering with an additional dormer window for a clock.
From summer 2011, extensive renovation work on the roof and facade of the church took place. In the first construction phase, the half-timbered extension (nave) was thoroughly renovated, the roof covering was renewed and doors (south facade) and windows (north facade) installed later were closed to harmonize the facade. In the 2nd construction phase, which began in 2013, the revision of the structural shell (roof and facade) was completed and the restoration work on the interior with the coffered ceiling began.
