Doris Fässler

Doris Fässler (* 1954 in Zurich ) is a Swiss art historian , curator and Germanist .

Life

Fässler studied art history , German literature and monument conservation at the University of Friborg and the ETH Zurich . In 1982 she graduated in art history (lic. Phil.), In 2002 in German (lic. Phil.) And a diploma as a secondary school teacher at the University of Zurich. She worked at various museums, including as a research assistant at the Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur . She then worked for many years as a deputy head of department at the Swiss Institute for Art Research in Zurich. From 2002 to 2004 she was research officer and from 2004 to 2018 lecturer for art history at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences, Design & Art . Fässler curated exhibitions and worked as a publisher. She has written publications on 20th century Swiss art, including a number of publications on Expressionism , among others. a. she is the author of the books published in 1993 and 1999 on the work of Eduard Gubler .

On the 100th anniversary of the initiation exhibition of the Swiss artist group Der Moderne Bund , an exhibition in collaboration with Doris Fässler took place in 2011 at the Lucerne Art Museum . As part of the exhibition, Fässler gave the monograph Der Moderne Bund as the result of her research . Beginning of modernity in Switzerland . According to the review in Sehepunkte, it was not a classic exhibition catalog, "but rather a monographic handbook that, following a strictly historical approach, examines the genesis of this first and most important Swiss group of modern artists and their activities". Fässler introduced the volume with a detailed essay, "which describes the history of the Modern Bund from the first meetings of the founding members to the breakup of the group". Their investigations make it possible to specify previously imprecise data. The volume extends and deepens the results of known research.
