Mark Dornford-May
Mark Dornford-May (born May 29, 1955 in Great Britain ) is a British film director .
Dornford-May has been a successful theater and opera director since the early 1980s. In Bristol he founded the Playwright's Company . He has directed productions at the Crucible in Sheffield , the Playhouse in Oxford , the Gate Theater in Notting Hill and the Royal Shakespeare Company . He taught in London at the Central School of Speech and Drama and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . Together with Charles Hazlewood he founded the Broomhill Opera , which he led as artistic director for 10 years. Guest appearances have taken him to France , Belgium , Portugal , Australia , South Africa , Ireland , Canada and the USA .
Dornford-May has lived in South Africa since 2000 . There he heads the acting group Dimpho Di Kopane ( United Talents ), which he founded.
Awards
- For his first feature film U-Carmen he was in 2005 at the 55th International Film Festival in Berlin with the Golden Bear award.
- In the same year, Dornford-May was nominated for a Drama Desk Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) for his musical production The Mysteries .
