The yolk-yellow lichen bear or the spring lichen bear ( Eilema sororcula ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the subfamily of the bear moth (Arctiinae).
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 27 to 30 millimeters. Their fore and hind wings are bright yolk yellow to pale yellow in color, rarely they are almost white. The underside of the forewings are slightly dark in the middle. The tip of the forewings (apex) is more rounded than that of the similar species. The legs are gray to dark gray, the compound eyes are deep black.
The caterpillars are patterned black, gray and white and have a segment on the second segment, in the middle of the body and just before the end of the abdomen, the back of which is darker in color. On each segment there is a reddish-brown wart on the left and right on the back. They have long gray hair that does not grow too tightly.

Occurrence and distribution
The animals occur in southern and central Europe except in Greece , north to central England and southern Sweden . They live on warm forest edges , in alluvial forests and in clear places in oak , beech and mixed deciduous forests . You avoid densely overgrown trees. They have become rare in many places and are sensitive bio-indicators .
Way of life
Flight and caterpillar times
The moths fly in one generation from May to June. The caterpillars are found from July to September.
Food of the caterpillars
The caterpillars feed on lichens that grow on different types of deciduous trees, less often on those on conifers .

The caterpillars pupate in autumn and overwinter as a pupa in a brownish web, before hatching as a finished imago in the following spring .
