Douglas Dean Smail (born September 2, 1957 in Moose Jaw , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Winnipeg Jets , Minnesota North Stars , Nordiques de Québec and Ottawa Senators in the National from 1975 to 1996 Hockey League played.
Career
Doug Smail began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the Moose Jaw Canucks, for which he was active from 1975 to 1977 in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . He then attended the University of North Dakota for three years , for whose ice hockey team he was active parallel to his studies in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . From 1980 to 1990 the attacker played for the Winnipeg Jets from the National Hockey League . During his time with the Jets, he took part in the 1990 NHL All-Star Game . The 1990/91 season he also began with the Winnipeg Jets, but was transferred to the Minnesota North Stars on November 7, 1990 in exchange for Don Barber . The following season he spent with the Nordiques de Québec . For the 1992/93 season he joined the NHL newcomer Ottawa Senators , but ended the season with the San Diego Gulls from the International Hockey League . The Canadian most recently played for the Fife Flyers and Cardiff Devils in the British Hockey League from 1993 to 1996 , before ending his career at the age of 38.
