Dr. Martini Prize
The Dr. Martini Prize is the oldest medical prize in Germany. It has been awarded annually since 1883 by the Dr. Martini Foundation in Hamburg for the “promotion of young scientists” on February 12th , the anniversary of Erich Martini's death . The award goes to scientists who work in hospitals in Hamburg and who deal with basic clinical research and new therapeutic approaches. The prize is endowed with 3,000 euros (as of 2012).
In 2012, the results of studies on the role of the foundation and on the awarding of prizes during the Nazi era were published. Thereby an ethical misconduct in scientific or professional activity was proven in three award-winning authors. In 1944, the War Martini Prize was awarded once for five works that were created as part of Wehrmacht deployments and dealt with issues of importance to the war effort.
The Dr. Martini Prize should not be confused with the Paul Martini Prize awarded for drug research .
