Drago Druškovič (born January 16, 1950 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian visual artist of Slovene descent .

Life

Drago Druškovič spent his childhood and youth in Carinthia, mostly in Sankt Jakob im Rosental , studied psychology in Graz and Salzburg and began painting in 1974. In addition, he also dealt with tapestry, printmaking and book illustrations.

From 1989 he began to erase, “more persuaded than convinced” . The one who guided him notes: "The benevolent mindfulness with which the group treats each other also supports Drago's sometimes generous conception of order - in return, she benefits from Drago's cheerful serenity [...]"

From around 2005 Druškovič began to create most of his pictures on the PC.

The artist is the son of the Slovenian writer of the same name (1920–2009).
He himself has four adult offspring.

Comments (quotes)

"[...] Simple, clear content, the statements of which are clear, which do not require any definition or philosophy. It is the content of a painter who goes his way as quietly as he is persistent, unaffected by fashions, styles, recipes for success. […]
Painting is a meditation process, says Drago, another, one could say, is that of looking at things. [...] "

- Angelica Bäumer , March 1991.

“Drago Druškovič is a person with a distinctive inner life. In a fleeting encounter, one is tempted to call him unworldly, turned away from realities. […] Quite the opposite: The man is deeply attached to the world, sees everything that is going wrong, how this earth and the people are harassed, how they are exposed to the expeditions of conquest in order to create a supposedly ever better civilization. The artist opposes this view of life. "

“[…] The two artists were friends and the joint exhibition in Slovenj Gradec came about because their families came from there - Druškovičs Slovenian and Golls German declared family. Even then, the artists violated taboos, both in terms of ethnicity and in terms of views on European art and the creative creed. [...]
According to CG Jung, mandalas are tools for strengthening inner being or for stimulating deeper meditation, which is why Druškovič's images are also imprinted on our consciousness and memory. "

- Milena Zlatar, 2004.

“[…] Druškovič's works in no way hide the influences of Buddhism or other religions, which have made the material world dependent on the spiritual. [...] magic [...] "

- Damir Globocnik, 2004.

"[...] We are far too little aware of the wealth and wealth of experience our ancestors left us, and we are all too indifferent in allowing our memories to go back only one generation, while we only know the rest from textbooks, which of course in are primarily informative. Drago Druškovič reminds us a little of the anthropologists who tried to understand the development of man and treated all his phases in an entirely equal manner. [...] "

- Boris Gorupic, 2004.

"[...] I am not the first to attribute Druškovič the nickname anthropologist because of such characteristics."

- Aleksander Bassin, 2009.

“[…] It is a real rarity that there are also graphic artists who take the experimental step into virtual production. Drago Druškovič is such an exceptional artist who has overcome the transition from computer images to traditional printmaking. [...] "

- Hiltrud Oman, 2009.
