The building ensemble Dree Süsters ("Three Sisters") on the North market square.

The Dree Süsters ( Low German : Three Sisters ) are a listed building ensemble in the East Frisian coastal town of Norden ( district of Aurich , Lower Saxony ). It has the address Am Markt 12-14.

description

The ensemble consists of three gable-facing brick buildings , which were built in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. The building with number 12 was built around 1570, the middle one around 1630 and the building with number 14 also during this period. Due to their great similarity, the buildings are called Dree Süsters . The building on the right (house number 14) gave way to a parking lot around 1963. Its gable was reconstructed in 1991 based on old photographs for use as a tourist office .

The two left gables are part of a semi-detached house. Its left gable is made in the style of transition from Gothic to Renaissance . It looks like a Gothic stepped gable with quarter circles in the steps. It already shows signs of the tail gable , which is already fully developed in the middle house (house number 13), which was built a little later. In the upper center of the gable, one segment of a circle with diamond ashlar can be seen in the masonry for each building. In the center of the two preserved houses there is a Delftware element as a decorative element, and a plate from Harlingen in the reconstructed house number 14 .

All three have string courses , the house no. 12 also comes in Traufsteine from sandstone . These sandstone bands were renewed in the 17th century. The original window structure is still recognizable on the side facing the market through the double relief arches with diamond ashlar . At house number 12 the rear gable also has relief arches.
