Trident on the Horchheim Summer Day 2018

The Dreizackweck is a bread from the Horchheim district of Worms . It is traditionally baked on the Horchheim Summer Day , which takes place on the fourth Sunday of Lent ( Laetare ).

tradition

The sweet bun symbolizes the Trinity . It is baked on behalf of the incumbent mayor and thrown by him under the crowd, which consists mainly of children. The children then stick the pastries to the tip of the stick decorated with ribbons.

The festival is celebrated in memory of the child murderer Elsbeth vom Fronhof , who killed her illegitimate child and was executed on the Fronberg as atonement for it. Before her death, she bequeathed her property to the congregation on the condition that the congregation's schoolchildren should pray for their souls every year. The festival takes place every year on the fourth Sunday of Lent and the parade leads to the Fronberg.

The Wecken was added to the European Bread Museum in Mollenfelde , today in Ebergötzen , in 1983.

Trademark dispute

Because of the resemblance to the Mercedes star , there was a dispute with the Daimler-Benz automobile group in 1953 . The Dreizackweck or the community won in court, as the Dreizackweck was a traditional pastry that was verifiably baked as early as 1754, long before the Mercedes star was registered as a trademark (at that time a trademark). As a result, the Dreizackweck was registered as a trademark with the number 682185 at the German Patent and Trademark Office .
