Drew Gulak (born April 28, 1987 in Abington , Pennsylvania ) is an American wrestler . He is currently under contract with the WWE and appears regularly on their show SmackDown . His greatest achievement to date has been receiving the NXT Cruiserweight Championship .

Wrestling career

Combat Zone Wrestling (2005-2016)

Gulak began his training for a career in professional wrestling in 2004 at the Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) Wrestling Academy and the Chikara Wrestle Factory. He made his debut for CZW on September 10, 2005, on Down With The Sickness 4-Ever, a tribute to Chris Cash, who won a Battle Royal. Gulak was quickly hooked up with CZW Wrestling Academy's alumnus Andy Sumner. The team, known as Team AnDrew, won the CZW World Tag Team Championship twice before disbanding in 2009.

After the team split up, Gulak switched to the singles competition and won the CZW Wired TV Championship in early 2010 by defeating Tyler Veritas in a television recording on Swinging for the Fences. Gulak held the title for 429 days, defeating wrestlers like Nick Gage, Zack Saber Jr., Rich Swann, and Sumner. During his reign as wired TV champion, Gulak began to characterize himself as a political leader and activist within the CZW. On June 11, 2011, Gulak lost the Wired TV Championship to AR Fox.

At Tangled Web 6 on August 10, 2013, Gulak defeated Masada and won the CZW World Heavyweight Championship. At Proving Grounds in May 2014, Gulak lost the title to Biff Busick.

World Wrestling Entertainment (since 2016)

On May 7, 2016, Gulak defeated Tracy Williams at Evolve 61 to qualify for the upcoming WWE Cruiserweight Classic tournament. The tournament started on June 23rd when Gulak defeated Harv Sihra in his first round. On July 14th, Gulak was eliminated from the tournament by Zack Saber Jr. Gulak appeared on the September 14 episode of NXT and lost to Hideo Itami. On the September 26 episode of Raw, Gulak made his main roster debut, teaming up with Lince Dorado , losing to Cedric Alexander and Rich Swann . In December it was confirmed that Gulak had signed with the WWE . On January 2, 2017, episode of Raw, Gulak won his first match against Cedric Alexander.

In February 2018, Gulak entered a tournament to determine the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion. Gulak defeated both Tony Nese and Mark Andrews , which he reached the semi-finals and finally lost to Mustafa Ali there .

After April, Gulak was taken off television and posted a series of cryptic tweets hinting at a dark turn in his character. On June 23, 2019, he won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship from Tony Nese . The reign lasted 108 days and then lost the title to Lio Rush .

As part of the 2019 draft, Gulak was drafted to SmackDown. On his SmackDown debut, Gulak attempted to show Braun Strowman a PowerPoint presentation on how to beat Tyson Fury , but he was quickly dispatched by Strowman. In February 2020, Gulak started a feud with Daniel Bryan after claiming he found gaps in his fighting style, which resulted in a match between the two, which he however lost.

In the March 13th episode of SmackDown, Gulak and Bryan formed an alliance after they both gained mutual respect. He then managed Bryan during his match against Cesaro , where both were subsequently attacked by Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn . On May 16, 2020, Gulak's contract with WWE expired after he decided not to renew it. On May 25, 2020, it was reported that Gulak had signed a new deal with the WWE. In the June 5th episode of Smackdown, Gulak defeated AJ Styles . This earned him a match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship , but he could not win the title.
