Richard Swann (born February 15, 1991 in Baltimore , Maryland , USA ) better known by his ring name Rich Swann is an American wrestler who was under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment from 2015 to 2018 . His greatest achievement is winning the WWE Cruiserweight Championship .

Career

Independent Leagues (2008-2015)

On August 23, 2008 he played his first match against Frankie Frizzo in the wrestling league PWU: Wrestle-Reality , which he lost. He then played several matches in other leagues, including: Combat Zone Wrestling , Dragon Gate USA , Pro Wrestling Guerrilla , Evolve , Full Impact Pro , Maryland Championship Wrestling and Jersey All Pro Wrestling . Swann also performed for leagues outside the US, in Europe. He made appearances for the German wrestling league Westside Xtreme Wrestling and the English wrestling league Revolution Pro Wrestling . He celebrated great success in the USA, as well as in Europe and Japan. At Evolve, he won the Open the United Gate Championship with Johnny Gargano . At Full Impact Pro he was able to win the FIP World Heavyweight Championship twice and also win the FIP Tag Team Championship with Roderick Strong . In the Japanese league Dragon Gate he was able to win the Open the Owarai Gate Championship and with Naruki Doi and Shachihoko Boy he also won the Open the Triangle Gate Championship . At Revolution Pro Wrestling he won the Undisputed British Tag Team Championship with Ricochet .

World Wrestling Entertainment

NXT (2015-2016)

In the summer of 2015, Swann signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. He made his debut on October 30, 2015 at an NXT house show. He played his first individual match in the WWE on November 20, 2015 at an NXT house show when he lost to Riddick Moss. On January 20, 2016, he made his television debut on the NXT edition when he lost to Baron Corbin . He then worked for NXT as a jobber. On March 31, 2016, Swann was confirmed as one of the first participants in the Cruiserweight Classic . The Cruiserweight Classic began on June 23, when he defeated Jason Lee in the first round. The second round was recorded on July 14, 2016. In the second round he was able to prevail against Lince Dorado. In the quarterfinals, which took place on August 26, 2016, he lost to eventual winner TJ Perkins . On October 23, he took part in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 2016 with No Way Jose . In the first round they defeated Drew Gulak and Tony Nese. In the second round they were eliminated by The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar), the eventual winners.

Main roster (2016-2018)

In the August 22, 2016 edition of Raw , Swann was announced as part of the Cruiserweight Division. He took part in the Cruiserweight Classic and made it to the quarterfinals there.

On September 19, 2016, Swann made his Raw debut and played a Fatal 4 Way Match against Cedric Alexander, The Brian Kendrick and Gran Metalik, which The Brian Kendrick won. When the new show WWE 205 Live debuted on November 29, 2016, Swann won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship from The Brian Kendrick. He lost the title to Neville at the Royal Rumble on January 29, 2017 .

Rich Swann was arrested on December 10, 2017. He is said to have assaulted his wife, the wrestler Vannarah Riggs, during an argument and pushed them into his car. WWE then suspended Swann indefinitely. On January 25, 2018, he was acquitted on all charges for lack of evidence. On February 15, 2018, WWE announced the termination of the contract on its website.

Independent scene

After the termination of his contract, Rich Swann had appearances for The Crash Lucha Libre , House of Hardcore and Southside Wrestling (United Kingdom) as well as in his old promotion Combat Zone Wrestling. On June 2, 2018, Swann made his debut in major league wrestling . There he initially worked with various tag teams and then tried his hand at being an individual wrestler, but without much success.

Impact Wrestling (since 2018)

At the same time as MLW, he also started working for Impact Wrestling on June 21, 2018 . There he was allowed to win the vacant Impact X Division Championship in a match against Ethan Page , Jake Crist and Trey Miguel at PPV Impact Wrestling Homecoming on January 6, 2019 . He held the title for 194 days and was named X-Division Star of the Year at the Impact Year End Awards . On July 19, 2019, he lost the title to Jake Crist.
