Theodore "Teddy" James Perkins Jr. (born September 3, 1984 in Los Angeles , California , United States ), better known by his ring names TJP and TJ Perkins , is an American wrestler of Filipino descent. He was under contract with WWE until February 22, 2019 and appeared as a cruiserweight on their shows Raw and 205 Live . His greatest successes to date have been the one-time receipt of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and theTNA X Division Championship .

Career

Beginnings / Independent

Various promotions

Teddy James Perkins began wrestling in 1999. He completed his first more important matches in 2001 under the ring name Pinoy Boy . In the following years he mainly appeared in more or less important independent wrestling leagues such as New Japan Pro Wrestling , All Pro Wrestling or Major League Wrestling .

He received his first title as a wrestler on December 4, 2004 when he won the APW Worldwide Internet Championship from JJ Perez at All Pro Wrestling under the ring name Puma . He gave the title back to JJ Perez on July 9, 2005.

NWA Pro Wrestling

On January 8, 2006 Perkins debuted in NWA Pro Wrestling when he and Rocky Romero , the tag team The Kings of Wrestling (consisting of Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli ) defeated . On June 1, 2008 Perkins played a match against Adam Pearce for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship , but could not win the title. On the same day, he received the previously vacant NWA Heritage Championship by winning a Battle Royal . He was then able to defend this five times before he had to hand it over to Ryan Taylor on December 12, 2008 after 194 days of title reign.

In mid-October 2010 he made his WWE debut under the ring name JT Quinn on the ECW show when he played a match against Sheamus . However, it stayed with this one-off appearance for the time being.

Total non-stop action wrestling

After performing sporadically for years at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling , Perkins played more shows there from 2013 under the new ring name Manik . On July 18, 2013 , he won the vacant TNA X Division Championship in a three-way match against Greg Marasciulo and Sonjay Dutt at Impact Wrestling . He gave the title to Chris Sabin on October 20, 2013 at the major TNA Bound for Glory event in a match in which Austin Aries , Jeff Hardy and Samoa Joe were involved .

In the following period Teddy James Perkins denied continues to be dominated matches in TNA, where he several times to the TNA X Division Championship feuded , but also in other independent promotions . This is also the case with the Empire Wrestling Federation, where he received the EWF Heavyweight Championship from Mike Maze on August 7, 2015 under the ring name Man in Black , which he only had to hand over to Andy Brown on May 6, 2016.

WWE

Since June 23, 2016, Perkins has participated in a WWE tournament with 32 participants called the Cruiserweight Classic for so-called cruiserweights , i.e. wrestlers weighing 93 kilograms or less. In this Perkins came up before the final, in which he Gran Metalik after about 18 minutes match time by task defeat and thus the Cruiserweight Classic win allowed. This win also earned him the newly created WWE Cruiserweight Championship , which will be incorporated into the WWE Show Raw as part of the Cruiserweight division, which is returning due to the popularity of the tournament .

He then feuded - now on Raw - against Brian Kendrick , who was returning to WWE , against whom he successfully defended the title on September 25, 2016 at the Clash of Champions Raw event . However, he lost the title to Kendrick in another match at Hell in a Cell on October 30, 2016. The following evening he could not win the title again in a rematch against Brian Kendrick on Raw. Also in mid-December at the Pay-per-View Roadblock: End of the Line in a triple threat match against Kendrick and the new title holder Rich Swann , Perkins did not win another title.

From April 2017, Perkins - now as the villain under the ring name TJP  - was once again involved in the WWE Cruiserweight Championship alongside title holder Neville in his feud against Austin Aries . On June 6, 2017, he lost a title match against Neville at 205 Live . From July, a feud against Rich Swann followed , to which he was defeated on September 12, 2017 and October 10, 2017 at 205 Live.

On February 22, 2019, Perkins was fired from the WWE .
