Drimia albiflora is a plant of the genus Drimia in the family of asparagaceae (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet albiflora is derived from the Latin words albus for 'white' and -florus for '-blütig'.

description

Drimia albiflora grows with egg to pear-shaped bulbs that are up to 3 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. Their papery onion scales are gray. Nothing is known about the leaves .

The inflorescence reaches a length of up to 25 centimeters. The upright flower stem is reddish brown. The loose, up to 25-flowered panicle is up to 6 centimeters long. The membrane-like, egg-shaped-triangular bracts are up to 2 millimeters long, pointed and spurred. The flowers are on stalks up to 9 millimeters long . The bell-shaped, hanging flower cover is up to 6 millimeters long. Their white, elongated, blunt tepals are fused at their base over a length of 1.5 millimeters. The free part of the stamens is flat. The introrsen anthers are up to 2.7 millimeters long. The ovoid ovary has a length of up to 2 millimeters. The flowering time is in the middle of summer.

Systematics and distribution

Drimia albiflora is widespread in the fynbos of the Western Cape province of South Africa.

The first description as Rhadamanthus albiflorus by Rune Bertil Nordenstam was published in 1970. John Charles Manning and Peter Goldblatt put the species in the genus Drimia in 2000 .
