Drimia multifolia is a plant of the genus Drimia in the family of asparagaceae (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet multifolia is derived from the Latin words multi for 'many' and folius for '-blättig'.
description
Drimia multifolia grows individually with underground, spherical to ellipsoidal bulbs that are up to 4 centimeters long. The up to 50 spirally twisted green leaves appear with the flowers. Your petiolate leaf blade is 10 to 20 centimeters long and 0.2 millimeters wide.
The upright, up to 15-flowered, paniculate inflorescence reaches a length of up to 20 centimeters. The flower stem is bare. The triangular-lanceolate bracts are up to 4 millimeters long and spurred at their base. The flowers are on stalks up to 8 millimeters long . The inflorescence is star-shaped. Their elliptical tepals are white with a brownish central stripe. They are 12 millimeters long and 5 millimeters wide. The tips are blunt. The stamens are 5 millimeters long. The stamens are thread-like. The elongated ellipsoid ovary has a length of 4 millimeters. The upright stylus is 3 millimeters long.
Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds .
Systematics and distribution
Drimia multifolia is widespread in the South African province of North Cape in the Succulent Karoo .
The first description as Urginea multifolia by Gwendoline Joyce Lewis was published in 1952. John Peter Jessop put the species in 1977 in the genus Drimia .
