Driss Guiga ( Arabic إدريس قيقة, DMG Idrīs Qīqa ; * August 21, 1924 in Testour ) is a former Tunisian politician of the Neo-Destur Party and, since 1964, of the Socialist Destur Party , who was Minister of Social Affairs, Health Minister, Minister of Education and Minister of the Interior as well as Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany between 1976 and 1980 .

Life

Driss Guiga attended the Collège Sadiki in Tunis and then completed a degree in history and law at the University of Algiers and a degree in private law at the University of Paris . After completing his studies and being admitted to the bar, he worked as a lawyer in Tunis from 1948 to 1952 and entered government service in 1952, where he was initially head of the Cabinet of the Minister for Public Health. As such, he was responsible for the administration of the hospitals and in this role contributed to numerous improvements and modernization programs. In 1956 he moved to the Ministry of the Interior and was initially Inspector General for Provincial Administration. In 1958 he was appointed director for regional and local government and finally director for national security in December 1962. In January 1963 he was appointed general commissioner of the national tourism office ONTT (Office national du tourisme tunisien) and in this role played a key role in the expansion of tourism in Tunisia .

On September 8, 1969, Guiga Mondher replaced Ben Ammar as minister of social affairs (Ministre des Affaires sociales) in the second Bourguiba cabinet and held this ministerial office until November 7, 1969. In the following Ladgham cabinet , he was first minister for public on November 7, 1969 Health (Ministre de la Santé publique) and kept this post in the subsequent Nouira cabinet until he was replaced by Mohamed Mzali on March 17, 1973. In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, he took over the position of Hamed Zghal in the Nouira cabinet on March 17, 1973 Minister for National Education (Ministre de l'Éducation nationale) and held it until May 31, 1976, when Hédi Zeghal succeeded him. After leaving the cabinet, he served as ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany between 1976 and 1980 .

After his return, Driss Guiga replaced Othman Kechrid as Minister of the Interior (Ministre de l'Intérieur) in the Nouira cabinet on March 1, 1980 and held this ministerial office in the subsequent Mzali cabinet until January 7, 1984, after which Prime Minister Mohamed Mzali himself took over this post .
