Djawa ( Georgian ჯავა , Russian and Ossetian Дзау dsau ) is a city in the north of South Ossetia .
Dschawa has been an urban-type settlement since 1961 and forms the center of the Jawa municipality . It is the second largest town in South Ossetia after the administrative center of Tskhinvali . It is located 22 km north of Tskhinvali train station, 1100 m above sea level in the valley of the Great Liachwi .

Jawa was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake on April 29, 1991.
