Jalāl ad-Dīn al-Mahallī

Jalāl ad-Dīn al-Mahallī ( Arabic جلال الدين المحلي, DMG Ǧalāl ad-Dīn al-Maḥallī ; born 1389 in Cairo ; died 1459 in Cairo), also in the spelling Jalaluddin al-Mahalli a . a., was an Egyptian Islamic scholar and Koran exegete of the Shafi'ite school of law ( madhhab ).

Live and act

Jalāl ad-Dīn al-Mahalli was born in Cairo in 1389. He earned his living as a trader. He is the author of works on law (fiqh), interpretation of the Koran and legal theory (usul al-fiqh), including a commentary on al-Dschuwainīs al-Waraqam , a short guide to the sources of law ( in Arabic أصول الفقه usul al-fiqh , DMG uṣūlu ʾl-fiqh ). The classic Sunni work Tafsīr al-Jalālain ( Arabic تفسير الجلالين, DMG tafsīr al-ǧalālain  ' Tafsīr of the two Jalāl'; also in the writing Tafsīr al-Jalālayn u. a.) was started by him and completed after his death by his student Jalāl ad-Dīn as-Suyūtī (1445–1505). This famous Tafsīr work has appeared in various editions. Jalāl ad-Dīn al-Mahalli died in Cairo in 1389.
