Jalalabat , also Jalal-Abad ( Kyrgyz Жалал-Абад ; Russian Джалал-Абад ; Arabic جلال آباد; international transcriptions mostly Dzhalal-Abad, Djalal-Abat or Jalalabat ), is a city in the southwest of the Central Asian Republic of Kyrgyzstan .

It is the administrative center of the Jalalabat region . The city had 97,172 inhabitants in 2009, making it the third largest city in the country. The official estimate for January 2019 is 109,200.

In the wake of the unrest in southern Kyrgyzstan in 2010 , pogroms also broke out in Jalalabat .

Evangelical Lutheran Church

There has been a community in Jalalabat since 1999. It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Kyrgyz Republic . The prayer house, which was bought and renovated in 2000, is located in the middle of a residential area. The number of parishioners has decreased significantly in recent years due to the waves of emigration. The community in Mailuusuu is also supplied from Jalalabat .
