Elhanan Helpman (born March 30, 1946 in Jalalabat , Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic , now Kyrgyzstan ) is an Israeli economist . He teaches international trade at Harvard University .

Life

Elhanan Helpman was born in Jalabad in what was then the Soviet Union . In 1957 he moved to Israel with his parents. There he studied economics from 1966 to 1969 at Tel Aviv University . He completed his studies with a Bachelor of Arts and the grade Cum Laude . In 1971 he obtained the Master of Arts with the grade Summa Cum Laude . He then went to the USA, where he obtained his Ph. D. from Harvard University from 1971 to 1974 .dropped. He then returned to Israel to work as a lecturer at Tel Aviv University. There he became associate professor in 1978. Three years later he became a full professor and at the same time dean of the economic sector for a year. In 1988 he became Archie Sherman Professor of International Economic Relations. From 1990 to 1992 he was director of the Foerder Institute for Economic Research at Tel Aviv University and, from 1991 to 1992, director of the Sackler Institute for Economic Studies . In 1997 he received a professorship at Harvard.
