Dušan Milović

Dušan Milović (born March 28, 1925 in Nova Varoš , Yugoslavia ; † August 15, 2018 in Canada ) was a Yugoslav or Serbian structural engineer specializing in soil mechanics .

Life

He graduated from the University of Belgrade with a degree in civil engineering in 1954 . In 1959 he received his doctorate with a thesis on structural properties of the loess soils of Yugoslavia .

From 1959 to 1966 he worked in the soil mechanics department at the Serbian Institute for Materials Testing in Belgrade. From 1966 to 1971 he worked at the Université de Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke , Canada , among other things as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Construction ; from 1969 he was full professor there. Here he dealt with the problems involved in building on the Leda clay that occurs in Canada , which tends to liquefy the soil when exposed to vibrations .

From 1971 to 1980 he was a full professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Novi Sad as well as a consultant at the Institute for Civil Engineering of Vojvodina , after which he was full professor for industrial construction at the Faculty of Technical Sciences at the University of Novi Sad until his retirement in 1992. He was involved in planning the foundations of numerous large structures in Yugoslavia as well as in Czechoslovakia, Poland, Canada and Iraq.

He became a full member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1991 .
