The Dudley Head is a distinctive snow-capped ridge of several dome-like peaks with a maximum height of 2540 m in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It extends 5 km south of Mount Patrick on the eastern flank of the Beardmore Glacier in the Transantarctic Mountains .
It was discovered by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907-1909) under the direction of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton . Shackleton named him after William Humble Ward, 2nd Earl of Dudley (1867-1932), then Governor General of Australia. The original name Mount Dudley was adapted to the appearance by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 1962.
