Rio Preto da Eva , officially Município de Rio Preto da Eva , is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Amazonas . It is part of the metropolitan area of Manaus . The city lies on the river of the same name, which flows into the Amazon . The name means Eva's black river . In 2019, an estimated 33,347 people lived in Rio Preto da Eva, who are called Rio-Pretenser ( rio-pretenses ) and live in a municipal area of around 5815.6 km².

The city is around 58 kilometers as the crow flies and around 78 kilometers from Manaus , the state capital, via the AM-010 state road.
Surrounding communities are Presidente Figueiredo in the north, Manaus in the south and west, Itacoatiara and Itapiranga in the east and northeast.
The biome is the Amazon rainforest (Amazônia).

The city has a tropical rainforest climate ( monsoon ), according to the effective climate classification of Köppen and Geiger Af . The annual average temperature is 27.3 ° C. About 2302 mm of precipitation falls annually. There is heavy rainfall during most months of the year. The dry season is short.

The state road AM-010 runs through the village and connects it with Manaus, the western part of the municipality connects the BR-174 with the capital.
Airplane accident in 1962
On December 14, 1962, an airplane accident occurred near the Paraná da Eva agricultural colony in the municipality , in which 50 people were killed.
economy
The area around Rio Preto da Eva is rich in kaolin . Agriculture, cattle breeding (pigs), fishing and poultry farming are practiced, and the residents sometimes live from extractivism . The agricultural companies are active in the fields of fruit processing, sweets, feed processing and dry food, tapioca flour , spices, mattresses, furniture processing and the wood industry, buriti oil and a pig slaughterhouse. An agro-industrial industrial park, the Distrito Agroindustrial de Rio Preto da Eva (DARPE), has been planned since around 2019 to expand Manaus’s economy .
