The metropolitan area of Manaus ( Portuguese Região Metropolitana de Manaus , RMM) is also known as Grande Manaus, It is the largest metropolitan area in Northern Brazil with around 2.68 million inhabitants and the eleventh largest in the country. It brings together 13 communities in the state of Amazonas in the metropolitan area.
For 2019, the population was estimated at 2,676,936 million, which corresponds to more than 1.27% of the Brazilian population.
The metropolitan area of Manaus is located in a strategic area for the development of the state of Amazonas. It has a free trade zone that is home to some of the largest and most important companies in the country in transportation and communications, as well as biotechnology, petrochemicals, shopping malls and intense port activities.

The area of the metropolitan area of Manaus is 127,287.789 square kilometers. It is the largest Brazilian metropolitan area, which is larger than the area of some Brazilian states such as Pernambuco , Santa Catarina and Rio de Janeiro (more than twice the size of the latter) and is roughly the same size as Iceland (103,000 km²) and South Korea (99,538 km²) ) and is larger than countries like Hungary (93,032 km²) and Portugal (92,391 km²).
