Careiro , officially Município de Careiro , also called City of Lakes and Careiro Castanho , is a city in the Brazilian state of Amazonas . The city is located southeast of Manaus and west of the Rio Madeira . It belongs to the metropolitan area of ​​Manaus . In 2019, an estimated 37,869 people lived in Careiro.

The city is located 15 miles from the state capital ( Manaus ). Neighboring cities are Careiro da Várzea and Iranduba in the north, Manaquiri in the west, Autazes in the east, Itacoatiara in the northeast and Borda in the south.
