Carlyle John "Duke" Dinsmore (born April 10, 1913 in Williamstown , West Virginia , † October 12, 1985 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) was an American racing driver .
Career
Dinsmore's career began in 1939. From 1946 to 1960 he was at the start of 47 races for the AAA National Series . He achieved his only victory in 1950 on the Sacramento race track in a Kurtis Kraft - Offenhauser .
At the 500 miles of Indianapolis he was at the start six times between 1946 and 1956, with his best result in 1947 with a tenth place. However, he had to share this with Billy DeVore . In 1953 he was not originally qualified, but on lap 145 he took over the car from Rodger Ward, who was completely exhausted due to the extreme heat. However, after just 11 laps it was broken with a defective engine.
Since the 500 miles were part of the drivers' world championship from 1950 to 1960 , Dinsmore also has four starts in Grand Prix races in the success statistics. He couldn't score points there.
